William pulled the car over in front of the house. He turned off the car’s engine and rested his arms on the steering wheel like he always did when having a flash of thoughts and needed to make a quick decision. The difference was just that he did not understand his partner's grief, and he had hurt her instead of helping her heal. William looked at Sarah with pity in his eyes. Sarah wanted to open the door and get out, but he held her hand and stopped her.

"Please wait," William pleaded, "I am sorry. It was wrong of me to ask you that." He breathed hard, and his face flushed red, revealing his embarrassment and regret. But it was not enough to sway Sarah's decision to keep mum over her past sensitive details.

"It’s okay, Will," Sarah told him, forcing a smile. She wanted to leave the car, and William stopped her again. She turned and looked at him with a wry smile. William let go of her hand. Sarah got out of the car and shut the door. She rested against the side, looked into the vehicle, and then said, "Thank you for everything," and walked away.

William stretched his hand under the driver's seat and brought out a small brown envelope. He removed a mobile phone from it and punched in a set of numbers.

"She is suspicious but has no clue. Yes. We’ll meet at the rendezvous point."

The concise conversation was over, and William returned the phone to the bag and under his seat. He started the car’s engine and drove away.
